SHANKARE HILL 2

 

Location

This small hillock is locate directly to the east of Shankare Hill and falls within the borders of Phalaborwa’s horse riding school.

 

Historical evidence

No historical evidence is available for Shankare 2.

 

Archaeological remains

A few low stone walls were built on level ground to the north-west of the hill. This area is also covered with Heteropogon Contortus grass, an indicator that humans used to occupy this site.

 

State of preservation

The north-western foot of Shankare 2 has a shallow deposit which may contain archaeological significant remains.

The low saddle between Shankare and Shankare 2 was destroyed in order to build a road Between these two kopjes. Hence, the CR3 copper smelting furnace and the iron forge enclosure (3/67) were destroyed.
